Top 10 Marketing Errors by Anne Rose, Taylor + Rose Consulting, Toronto, Canada
1 – No Market Research. Poor research leads to poor product introduction and often failure. 2 – Lack of Commitment. You may want to do it, but do you have the support of your company behind you? 3 – Poor Alliances. Check out all your partners. Embassies, consulates and your bankers can do some initial vetting. 4 – Eyes Too Big. Roll out your exporting slowly. Get your feet wet and expand as your company is able to take it on. 5 – Not a Priority. Exporting should not be a sideline business for your company. 6 – Poor Distributor Relations. You need time to invest and if you invest that time, you will have good relationships with your distributors or agents. 7 – Rigid Standards. Apply rigid standards to your products. Exporting is not the place to send the rejects from your home market. 8 – English Only. One of the biggest errors is assuming that English only is acceptable. You need to have your products labeled in the language of the country so people can understand it. 9 – No Export Expertise. 10– Going it Alone.
10 Key Mistakes People Make With Their Web Sites by the president of Fancy Fortune Cookies
1. Giant graphics. Avoid big, giant graphics. It takes a long time to download. If it takes a viewer longer than 30 seconds to bring your home page up, you lose over half of your audience. 2. Look at my poor logo. Studies show that the average person looks at a page for only 7 to 10 seconds maximum. So you don't want your front page taking a long time to download, and you don't want the only thing that they see is your logo. You want to put something short, fast, and quick as a headline instead of a big, giant, cool logo. If you do have a logo, have it at the top of your site, compressed to the left hand side or to the bottom of the page. 3. Avoid animated .gifs, spinning logos and blinkers. Think of your site as something that makes money. If someone has 10 seconds to look at your site, and all they see is stuff spinning around, its not going to make you money. 4. Grammatical errors. If someone happens to view only 1 or 2 pages and they find grammatical errors, it costs you a lot of credibility. Make sure you have several people look over your site and constantly do that as you change and update your pages so you don't have grammatical errors. 5. We We We. A lot of companies do this: AWe are the best company in Argentina. We do more business than anybody. We will help you every step of the way. We know how to get the job done. As a rule thumb, use one Awe to every seven or eight Ayous. 6. Who What and Where. You don't want to have: Awe are XYZ company. We are located at 247 Main Street and the boss name is Bob.Tell them in a short amount of space exactly what you can do for them. 7. Don't use frames. Don't use frames because it is hard for people to navigate. It takes a long time to download, and if you want the search engines to find you, a lot of them have a hard time indexing sites which have frames. 8. Broken Links. Make sure you run your site through a program to check about every 30 days for broken links. 9. Easy navigation. On every single page have access to your home page or to an order form if you have one. Have your navigational bar either on the left side of your screen which is very effective and have it on every single page or on the top or bottom, but make sure they can find easily the most exciting or prevalent parts of your site. 10. Weak or boring copy. The worst thing you can do as a business owner is to give a web master your material, your brochure and say go ahead and put it on the web. The best thing you can do is find somebody who understands writing copy, understands how to write for the web, and have them help you work with your graphic artist. for further details pls refer to www.globewomen.com
